When using soil that is not too loose or preparing very large trees, the bottom of the dug trench should be covered with approx 5 cm of coarse sand, gravel or similar material and set above sea level, before mulching with earth, ceramic or other filters, height close to the height of the solid. The task of the filters is to facilitate the access and exchange of air.
Formation of a large number of roots, which will overgrow the substrate, it is possible only if it is kept sufficiently moist. If the entire interior of the block is dry, the roots will not develop in it, and those below will go down. Therefore, it is imperative to water the tree at least weekly intervals.
If, during the summer, the tree cannot be provided with a sufficient amount of water by watering the tree, measures should be taken to reduce water losses due to evaporation of the soil surface and transpiration of the tree. For this purpose, first of all, the surface of the soil around the tree should be covered with a layer of mulch over the largest possible area. This area should not be weeded. In addition, the tree trunk must be wrapped in a double cloth, jute to protect against sunlight and heating. Another measure to limit transpiration is shortening or removing in the crown of the tree 30-50% branch, the thickness of which does not exceed 2 cm. Cutting thicker branches causes larger wounds. The cut should not disturb the plant's habit and should therefore evenly cover the entire crown. The surface of the wounds should be smeared with Funaben paste 3 or orchard tar. Trees prepared as described should be replanted as early as possible in the fall.
