Establishing lawns

Our offer includes services related to the establishment of lawns. We offer sowing and roll-out lawns. We set up lawns for various purposes: decorative, recreational, sports, type of flower meadow. We carry out works related to the establishment of lawns with great care, thanks to which our lawns look particularly beautiful. Contrary to appearances, setting up a lawn is not an easy task. To get compact, uniform, a vivid green turf must be performed very carefully.

The first work in setting up a lawn is weed control. We destroy weeds with a total herbicide, e.g.. Roundapem, possibly a mixture of herbicides, e.g.. Rondap + Sterane, or Chwastox. Wait after spraying 2-3 weeks and where, when the weeds are dead, cut them down. Some of the weeds are particularly resistant, e.g.. horseradish – in this case, spraying must be repeated.

The next stage is land leveling. This is a very important stage that can cause a lot of trouble. In order for the lawn to be nice, it must not be flooded by stagnant water. Unfortunately, this situation is common in clay soils. When leveling the area for the lawn, make sure to give it appropriate slopes, so that the rainwater drains away from the plot, e.g.. into the ditch, or a watercourse. The slope of the terrain should be at least 3%. At the same time, this should be borne in mind, that the slopes are always directed outside the buildings, otherwise water may accumulate at its foundation, or even flood cellars. If it is not possible to drain rainwater from the future lawn through slopes, it may be necessary to perform drainage. When carrying out land leveling, remember, that the area should be shaped approx. 12-15 cm lower than the planned lawn level.

The next step in setting up a lawn is delivering fertile soil, the so-called. humus. If we plan an irrigation system in the garden, or we want to protect the lawn against moles with a mesh, then the works related to the distribution of pipes for the irrigation system and the laying of the nets should be carried out before adding the humus.

To get a nice lawn, we should bring a layer of approx. 12-15 cm of fertile soil. Such soil should be dark in color, when wet, make your hands dirty and scatter into small lumps. Heavy clays should be avoided, which are sticky when wet and formable like plasticine, as well as sandy soils, which do not form lumps when wet. Humus should be evenly planted and pre-felled. If it contained weed seeds, please wait, until they sprout, then destroy them with a herbicide.

The penultimate stage of establishing a lawn is sowing seeds in the case of sowing lawns, or laying turf on rolled lawns.

Regardless of the method of establishing the lawn, the pre-prepared soil should be slightly loosened with a rake. In the case of a rolled lawn, spread the turf in stripes on the soil prepared in this way, so that they fit tightly together. The joints of the adjacent lanes should pass each other. In the case of a sowing lawn, sow the seeds of the selected grass mixture on the prepared ground in the amount 3-5 kg/100 m2, and then compound fertilizer of the NPK type in the amount of 2-3 kg/100 m2. Using a seeder, we sow seeds and fertilizer twice, sowing on the cross. After sowing, the seeds are shallowly mixed with the soil, raking the sowing crosswise, and then we cover with a thin layer of deacidified peat (ok. 400-800 l torfu / 100 m2). After raking the soil, roll it twice with a smooth roller (also cross).

The last stage is watering the newly planted lawn. In the case of a seeded lawn it is very important, so that the soil is constantly moist, the do moments, when all the seeds have sprouted, i.e. for approx. 2 weeks. In the absence of rain, it is a necessity everyday, 2-3 repeated watering. Roller lawns require less intensive watering, but in very hot weather, or dry watering should also be intense. The lawn should be mowed for the first time when it reaches approx. 12cm in height. lawn from sowing, in the first mowing, mow to a height of approx. 7-8 cm, on the other hand, a rolled lawn can be mowed immediately to the desired height, that is ok. 4 cm.
