The size and availability of the lawn

Lawns are very important elements of the garden composition, therefore about their size, the location and connection with other elements of the environment should always be decided by the designer. The design features include: sizes, Shape, topography and neighborhood.

The dimensions of the lawn result from the proportions adopted in the project in relation to other elements of the facility. Please note, that one large lawn is always better than several small ones. This is justified not only for aesthetic reasons, but also because of its ease of care, and, above all, mowing. In small areas it is impossible to use mechanical equipment. Larger lawn surfaces should not be separated from each other, but properly combined, which makes it possible to travel with care machines. Therefore, the narrowest points of the lawn surface should be wider than the working width of the mowers used.

The shape and accessibility of the lawn. When determining the shape of the lawn surface, avoid sharp bends, strictures, etc., which significantly impede mowing. Such places cannot be mowed mechanically, that is why they are usually not mowed and disfigure the entire surroundings.

When designing the shape of the lawn, you should always keep this in mind, that its entire surface should be accessible to the mower, it should be possible to operate it without destroying the surrounding rebates, etc.. The lawn should not be designed this way, so that the machine has to be carried over various obstacles while mowing. Very often the lawn is established, for example, under trees with a beautiful natural habit and a branched crown very low above the ground., that is, under trees with natural forms that are very rare in parks and gardens, and extremely valuable for artistic reasons. It is a shameful practice to remove the lower branches of such trees, and even their limbs only because of that. that you cannot drive up there with a mower, and often- I guess that's why, that the leader does not want to bend down. In such places under trees, instead of a lawn, it is best to keep the soil surface clean or covered with mulch. Sometimes special ground cover plants can also be used.
