New old wood frames. Picture frames are either neutral to "framed content", or they constitute its artistic complement. Materials for their manufacture can be found everywhere – in the attic, in the basement, at the flea market. These may be leftover slats, floor boards or wall panels.
Choosing the right frame for a picture is a matter of artistic talents and preferences. The easiest way is to express them, doing all the work independently. It is actually a fun and rewarding job, that due to overproduction, difficulties may arise in finding a place to display the products. We only require wooden elements, keep them dry and straight.
The glass can be ordered and cut to measure directly from the glazier, and in some DIY stores you can buy glass elements with standard dimensions. An interesting solution is also the frameless picture holders. If they are used, the wall around the painting can be beautified with treatments. Let's also remember, that not every painting needs to be covered with glass. This is not recommended for large images, because their frames are exposed to heavy loads anyway.
Corner joints do not need to be diagonal. You can just as well connect the elements one by one or put the shorter sides between the longer ones (top and bottom). Frames connected by the first method, the so-called. "Windmill", they give the impression of revolving around their own center. A sheet of card stock can be used as a support for the picture.
Old nails and screws should be removed from the wood intended for frame construction. We cut selected pieces of boards to the appropriate length, using a miter box and a back saw. Smooth the wood with sandpaper wrapped around a sanding block, we do not remove any remaining paint residues. Apply wood glue to the contacts
and press them together. The whole will be stiffened by corner pieces of plywood attached with staples. Wooden slats nailed to the frame from the back will form a recess for attaching the picture and glass. First, the glass is deposited within the frames, then the picture, and finally a cardboard or cardstock forming the back wall.
Glass, the painting and the cardboard are fixed in the recess with a hammer, hammering nails into the perimeter slats.
At the end, hangers for fixing the wire are screwed on the left and right side of the frame.
The finished frames should be covered with protective varnish in order to emphasize the convexity of the preserved paint remnants.
Frame from the deck of the boat.
According to the same principle, others can also be processed, more extravagant types of materials, such as wood from tropical trees, trampled floorboards or remains from an old boat. In this simple way, you can create an atmospheric setting for our best holiday photos. In a teak frame, from which boat decks are made. Thanks to them, a photo will be perfectly presented, e.g.. from a wonderful voyage on the open sea.
