Sandstone. If someone likes the rustic style, that is, wooden ceiling beams and walls made of natural stone, he does not have to buy a country estate right away. You can add a bit of idyllic simplicity to your current home by making a wall, which will give the impression of being built of sandstone blocks.
If you want a stone wall at home, but we cannot brick, let's try to be content with a good imitation. It doesn't take much, by using a little cheap putty, a small amount of paint, brush and sponge achieve surprising "architectural" effects.
The trick is this, to spread the putty evenly and give it a proper structure before it hardens. While making the mixture, put the powder into the water – otherwise, lumps will be formed. Immediately after setting the mass, it must be covered with a layer of acrylic azure of unequal thickness, by applying it with a brush perpendicular to the wall.
The next layer of paint is applied thinly and partially rubbed off, making the surface appear rough.
1. After mixing the putty mass to a paste consistency, it is applied evenly to the wall in a thick layer 0,5 cm and smooth with a trowel. The covered surface should be covered with a painting tape.
2. Using the edge of the slat or -as in the picture – level, we impress horizontal lines imitating joints in a soft spatula. The distances between them should be equal to the length of the shorter side of the trowel.
3. Vertical joints are imprinted in the mass with a trowel set diagonally.
4. Firmly pressing the natural sponge to the joint compound, we make its surface look like split stone.
5. With the handle of a brush or a blunt pencil, we manually correct the lines of the joints, making them irregular.
6. Before the putty binds, that is, it will harden, remove the painter's tape from the edges of the "wall" plane.
7. The covered wall fragment must be primed with acrylic azure in a light oak color.
8. White acrylic glaze is applied thinly on the first coat of paint, to then wipe it off before it dries.
9. Finally, tint the joints with diluted light gray pigment paint.
The necessary tools to make imitation sandstone stones are a smoothing float, brush and sponge, cellulose putty, acrylic glaze with a silky sheen light oak, white light gray pigment paint, mortar bucket, level, masonry trowel, bristle brush, flat brush, painter's tape.
