How to lay a carpet, part 2

flooringWhen measuring the area of the floor to be coated, it is necessary to take into account the door and window recesses. The distances from wall to wall are measured, not including skirting boards. Just in case, each band is added to approx 10 cm.

1. Old floor coverings are best removed with a claw tear-off tool. In places holding tight, they should be cut into strips.

2. Remains of foam and glue are removed with a spatula or an electric stripper. In the case of larger areas, it pays to rent specialized equipment.

3. The screed substrate must be firm, even and dry. Loose debris, sand and dust should be removed with a vacuum cleaner, and even out small holes with mortar.

4. Larger cavities (do ok. 3 cm) levels out with a self-leveling liquid putty, mixing it with water to the correct consistency and pouring it over the substrate.

5. The dried mortar can be smoothed with an orbital sander with sandpaper 120. Remove sanding dust and loose residues with a vacuum cleaner.

6. Simple and accurate cuts can be made with a knife or a special blade for cutting carpets, along the rail or strip applied to the material.

7. The edge contact is invisible, when the edges of the fabric fit snugly together. This is most easily achieved by cutting adjacent strands simultaneously.

The simplest form of fixing the floor covering to the base is sticking it with a double-sided adhesive tape. The spines are made of non-woven fabric, We replace the adhesive tape with Velcro tape. The carpeting is the best, when it sticks to the substrate over the entire surface. Adhesives suitable for this are either dissolved in water or purchased ready for use. These adhesives, compared to universal ones, are characterized by lower adhesion, sufficient, however, to maintain the carpet. Thanks to this, after it has been torn off for replacement, the substrate remains clean, and any residual glue can be easily removed with water and a cloth.

All solid and even wooden substrates are suitable for covering with carpets, ceramic tiles, PVC or screed. Before laying, remove all skirting boards, and the floor itself must be dry and degreased (In particular, the layer of floor wax paste requires removal). You also need to repair any holes and bumps.
