PRODUCTION OF CURRANT BUSHES

PRODUCTION OF CURRANT BUSHES – We propagate black and colored currants mostly by woody cuttings. Shoots intended for woody cuttings are cut from mother bushes from the end of August until more severe frosts. From one strongly developed shoot is usually obtained 2-3 cuttings approx 18 cm. The obtained seedlings are tied in bunches 50 heads and sinks in the sand in the storage room or outside in a shaded place.
During the depletion period, the cuttings of red currants already begin rooting.
Black currant seedlings prepared in this way are planted in the nursery in autumn. Color currant seedlings are planted in early spring. The most common row distances are 70-80 cm. Distances in rows: for black currant seedlings 15-20 cm, and for the colored ones 8-10 cm. Quite often, currant seedlings are planted in a row-belt system.
Care procedures in the first year are the same as in the gooseberry nursery. In the second year, the resulting shoots are pruned to 3-4 mesh. The shrubs that have been shortened in this way are obtained until the fall of the autumn.
