Their importance in shaping favorable conditions for recreation within each green area or park is of considerable importance. The lawn is the simplest and most natural covering of the soil surface. Such a cover is very necessary, especially in urban and neighborhood conditions. Loose ground surface not covered with vegetation, mainly in built-up areas, it is a source of dust. Covering such surfaces with grassy vegetation not only prevents the formation of dust, but it creates an impression of order. The lawn therefore performs an important aesthetic function. The quality of this function depends on the quality of the lawn. Well established and properly cared for lawns have a very positive effect on the human psyche.

That is why, all over the world, even in the most difficult climatic conditions, lawns are not abandoned. Their beneficial effect is also there, that their surfaces expose large amounts of water vapor to the environment. This water comes mainly from plant transpiration, but it also evaporates from the surface of the soil. Increasing air humidity in urban conditions is very desirable in the summer.

The release of water vapor through the lawn is accompanied by the absorption of a large amount of heat. That is why lawns are cooler than road surfaces on sunny summer days, building walls, etc.. Lawns can also have various other functions, which are discussed for each of their types.

Setting up and maintaining lawns requires learning about their basic features, which determine their value and functions. Acquiring these qualities is the essence of the establishment and maintenance business, i.e. lawn care.
