Packing and transporting trees

PACKING AND TRANSPORT
For groupage shipments, tree bundles should be packed in bales. A material should be placed between the roots of the trees to prevent them from drying out, np. wet moss, peat, and between the twigs there is a material to prevent breaking. The packaging should protect the trees from drying out, frost or other damage. The bales should be wrapped in straw, reed or similar material and tied with wire, string or wicker.
Larger batches of trees can be transported by car or rail without packing into bales.
To protect the root system of trees against drying out, cars intended for transporting nursery material should be lined with moist straw. The bunches of trees are usually arranged horizontally. When laying several layers, it is advisable to interleave every third layer with moist straw. Cover the top layer with a damp straw after loading, and then secure it against wind drift. Normal transport of trees without fear of damage to the roots by autumn frosts can be carried out only then, when the air temperature is above 0 ° C. By
air temperatures below 0 ° C, trees should be transported in refrigerated trucks, adequately insulated from the outside temperature.
