Tearing of the bark is caused by strong blows which separate the bark from the wood in the plane of the pulp and tear it out. Very often, the torn out flap is small in size, while the separation of the bark takes place over a much larger area. The wood can also be damaged as a result of very strong blows. Such wounds are more dangerous.
Caring for the damage in question consists in cutting the bark on the edges of the wound to an elliptical shape and applying Funaben on the entire surface. 3. In the event of separation and detachment of the bark, if the separation plane is not yet dry, nail the bark with thin nails or press it down by wrapping it with a string, tape, etc.. This dressing is best done immediately after damage. The site of damage should be kept moist or at least prevented from drying out excessively. Effective protection can be achieved by wrapping the damage in a cloth (air access), and then foil.
If the wood is damaged, it should be leveled with a chisel and also carefully smeared with the mentioned agents.
Tears of the bark around the entire circumference of the trunk are among the most dangerous damage, because they disrupt the ethmoid bundles, through which the roots are supplied with assimilation products. Then, the physiological functions of the roots are inhibited, which usually leads to the death of the tree.
