Carpet knife

cutting carpetYou don't need a lot of tools to lay carpet. These include a sharp spatula for cleaning the substrate with a sharp knife, a metal ruler serving as a guide when cutting and a putty knife with teeth for spreading the glue.
For example, an electric scraper removes all remnants of old floor coverings faster and better than the best putty knife. Here and there you can rent such specialized equipment (it is best to inquire at a carpet store). The carpet is trimmed with a special carpet knife or a utility knife, the blade of which should be stationary or at least equipped with an anti-slide mechanism. The knives dull at a rate depending on the type of material, and only sharp tools can achieve "clean" edges. The only solution is to replace the blades frequently or break off worn fragments frequently. The replaceable blades are shaped like trapeziums or hooks. Both types cut equally well, however, professionals prefer hook knives above all others. However, bare blades are very dangerous. Therefore, we recommend rather special tools, the blades of which extend from the housing to a length corresponding to the thickness of the lining or retract automatically into the housing under the action of a spring.
Cutting the carpet in the corners or cutting out narrow strips that serve as floor strips is easiest to do with the use of special tools, the purchase of which, however, pays off only in the case of large-scale works.

The most dangerous universal blade. Allows you to cut either side: one side of the knife has a straight cutting edge, and there are two hook-shaped blades on the back. The risk of injury is particularly high not only for unskilled users. In the process of cutting, when pressing the knife against the material, your finger may easily slip onto any of the blades, and one of them is always on top.
