Common Hazel – hazelnut, forest nut
shrub or tree. Ovate leaves, serrated. It blooms from the second half of February to the beginning of April, before leaf development. Separate-sex plant. Male flowers – kitties, female hidden in donuts. Fruit – little nuts (about one nucleus – semen) golden brown in color. It meets in September and October (only ripe; immature have a small testicle, they are worthless). Common plant, grows in all regions of the country, mainly in the Bieszczady Mountains, in forests and in the clearings.
